How many of us have fantasized about making the pilgrimage to Everest? Known in Tibetan as Chomolungma—“Mother Goddess of the Snows”—Everest is a mountain of superlatives and an irresistible lure to adventurers far and wide. The experience of gazing on its splendor is an indescribable thrill and, for many, the realization of a lifetime dream.
Only a very few have stood on Everest’s daunting summit, yet trekking to its flanks is an adventure of the highest sort that many can achieve. After a plunge into the exotic bazaars of Kathmandu, we take a mountain flight to Lukla at 9,200 feet. Our first few days of trekking take us through all the major Sherpa villages—Namche Bazaar, Thame, Khumjung, and beautiful.
Tengboche Monastery—where we have a chance to meet the friendly people and soak up the colors, sights, and sounds of Sherpa village life. We walk trails lined with beautiful mani stones and have a few rest days for acclimatization to help us in the days ahead.
Then we head for the rarified heights as we take the most direct hiking route to the stunning rocky outcrop of Kala Patar (18,192'), where we set our eyes on the awesome face of Everest, The Big One. Weather permitting, we’ll also visit Everest Base Camp, with its views of otherworldly 50-foot-tall seracs (the blocks of ice among the crevasses of the glacier). We will retrace our trek back the same route and end our trek with a flight back to Kathmandu.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport meet by our representative. Transfer to hotel for the night accommodation. On the way get the glimpse of Pashupatinath temple of Hindu. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
After an early breakfast in the hotel, we will go for a city tour of Heritage monument sites in Kathmandu valley: Boudhanath Stupa (the biggest Buddhist stupa of Asia), Pashupatinath Temple (the biggest holy temple of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva). In the evening, we will do the bike introduction followed by a briefing of the tour. Overnight at the Hotel.
Early morning we take a scenic flight to Lukla. Your Everest and Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek start here. The journey begins with an easy five-hour climb down to Monjo village.
We will climb up this day for about three hours. We will enter Sagarmatha National Park to reach Namche Bazaar.
This is an altitude acclimatization rest day. Rest well as your trek starts getting tougher from the next day.
Hike through forests to Pangboche village. The view of majestic Mount Ama Dablam (22,349 feet) will keep you energized.
The base camp is right around the corner from Pangboche. This place is also popular among tourists as several sightings of the Yeti.
We will be heading towards Everest from this day. The village lies on the bank of the Imja River.
We will hike through snow and pass Thukla village. Later we will reach Lobuche, Lobuche lies in the foot of Khumbu glacier. Mount Everest will be a day away.
A short three-hour trek will take you to Gorakshep, a village sitting on top of a frozen lake bed. Later we hike all the way to Everest Base Camp.
We will hike up to Kala Patthar, which lies on the southern ridge of Mount Pumori (23,494 feet). We will descend to Pheriche, a small village full of yaks.
We will start to get back now. An easy downhill trek through forests, suspension bridges, and alongside mountain ridges. It will get you to Namche Bazaar.
You descend downhill to reach Lukla from Namche Bazaar.
We take a return flight to Kathmandu from Lukla. Transfer to the hotel.
We say farewell to Nepal and take a flight to next destination.
Here’s a complete rundown of what to bring if you’re planning a trek to Everest Base Camp or any other tea-house trek in Nepal.
