Mustang Tiji festival trek is one of the most sought trip of Nepal Himalayas. This festival is celebrated at the end of dry season and ushers in the monsoons seasons while celebrating the triumph of good over evil in a ritual locals call “The chasing of demons.” With the message Guru Rinpoche carried through this region over a thousand years ago TIji itself means “hope of the dharma prevailing in all worlds.” Tiji festival trek combines through Mustang fascinating villages, alongside Buddhist shrines and temples in the shadow of the Himalayas most iconic mountains.
Mustang tiji festival trek centers around a myth which tells of a story if Dorje Jono who battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from Destruction. Tiji is derived from the word “ten Che” meaning the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all the worlds. You will stay at the walled city fo Lo Manthanf for 3 days celebrating the festival and watching the dance at the Tenchi festival.
During the Tiji Festival Trekking, the town square fills with characters clad as demons in flamboyant robes and hideous masks dancing about, slashing at the air with their swords and intoning spells over onlookers. Spend the day steeped in the sights, sounds, and movements of this once-in-a-lifetime cultural marvel trail of Upper Mustang. This three-day ceremony is lit up with colorful custom dress, dancing, music, and reenactments from the story of a deity and his demon father.
On this trial to celebrate Mustang Tiji Festival we take our trail to desert like sandy terrain, colorful cliff, wall caves and occasional green oasis through the region with spectacular landscape. You will walk in the shadow of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna along the kali Gandaki river route to Mustang. Finally you will spend the day steeped in the sights, sounds and movements of this once in a life time cultural marvel. This three day ceremony is lit up with the colorful custom dress, dancing music and enchantments from the story of deity and his demon father.
