Gosainkunda Shamanism Festival Trek takes you to one of the famous religious and pilgrimage place of Shamans and Hindus located in the Langtang and celebrated in the area of Gosaikundha Lake. This Lake is located at the altitude of 4380 m, encircled by high mountains on the north and east. It is believed to have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishula (trident) into a mountain to extract water to cool his stinging throat after he swallowed poison. There is a large rock in the center of the lake which is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine.  People often claim that they see Shiva lying in the water.  Devotees gather here in hordes on the full moon night of August to take a holy anointment in the lake.

This Gosainkunda Shamanism Festival Trek is mostly celebrated with three main principal religions Hinduism, Buddhism and Shamanism of Nepal. We follow this trail for 12 days while ascending and descending start with your drive to Sundarijal and starting a hike to Chisapani. Next we will visit to Kutumsang, Tharapati, Ghopte, and finally to Gosaikundha lake. We will encounter Shamans (“Dhami or Jhankri”) also calledd Bon-Po in Tamang language, a different pre-Buddhist sect, from all over Nepal to the lake. Shamans perform spiritual dancing and singing during the ceremony and this day is considered holy by the shamans, whereby apprentices or “junior Jhankris” obtain graduation from their masters or senior shamans. After celebrating this festival with Shamans we descend downhill walking through Chandanbari, Dhunche and drive to Kathmandu.

Gosainkunda Shamanism Festival Trek combines the challenges and scenic rewards of high altitude Himalayan trekking with the cultural color and spectacle of one of the great regional festivals of Nepal.
