Upper Mustang Trek is an exotic tour to the unspoiled villages that showcase rare medieval Buddhism arts, cultures as well as the unique beauty of the landscape of trans-Himalayan desert. Mustang was once a major ancient trading route between Thak Khola and Tibet. The world’s deepest gorge, the Kali Gandaki Valley, also lies in Mustang. In Tibetan, Mustang means fertile land Mustang, or the Kingdom of Lo, is an area located at the North-West of Nepal and it borders Tibet. Mustang was a prohibited area to foreigners up until 1991. Formerly independent, it is now an integral part of Nepalese territory (since 1951.) Located behind a mountainous barrier, Mustang sits in a rain shadow, unaffected by the monsoons. It has a dry, desert-like, and windy climate. Here one lives with the rhythm of the seasons isolated from modern time.

On this Upper Mustang trek we will visit LO-Manthang, the capital of Mustang and home to Mustang king’s palace. The regions is full of caves and monasteries dating back to 1300AD. This Upper Mustang trek of 20 days starts with your arrival in Kathmandu and with a scenic flight to Jomsom via Pokhara. We start our walk with our hike to Kagbeni followed by Chele, Geling, Tsarang and finally reaching to Forbidden Kingdom of Lo Manthang. Here we will take our time to do excursion and celebrate Tiji festival which is held for 3 days andis one of the biggest festival of High Himalayas. We will also visitChhoser Gompa, Ritseling Gompa, Khonchokling Gompa monastery.  Next we take out trail downhill to Drakmar, Shyangmochen, Chhusang and take a flight to Kathmandu from Jomsom with one night stay in Pokhara.

This Upper Mustang trek take you to fantastic canyons with red cliffs, chimneys of fairies, monasteries, Lo Manthang, the royal capital city strengthened by high Mustang, with an exceptional voyage to the meeting of an authentic culture full of legends and secrets.
