10 Days Bhairav Kund Trek

Trekking Type
Camping Trek
Trekking Grade
Moderate
Best Season
Feb - May
Cost per person
US$ 615

The Bhairav Kund area northeast of Kathmandu offers the proximity to the Himalayan Mountains then any other area in Nepal yet this is a remote and unfrequented region.  The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing from the narrow trails. From Bhairav Kund there are no intervening ranges to spoil the views of Himalayan range of Jugal Himal in which peaks include Dorje Lakpa (6966), Madiya (6257M) and Phurbi Ghhyachu (6637m). The mixes of mountain culture along the views on the route of the trek are superb. The highlight of the trek is the Bhairav Kund, a holy lake situated at (4200m), the dominating skyline and the life style of nomadic people unchanged by time.  The trekking group has to be self-contained, as there are no lodges/tea houses. Due to this incredible latitudinal range and an unusual geographical and climatic mix, walking this area is a naturalist's dream.

 ITINERARY:
 Day 01:

Upon arrival in Kathmandu
A representative will meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

Day 02: Early morning drive to Jalbire Camp
Drive about 3 hrs to northeast on the road to Tibet to Balephi, which once used to be one of the main towns for trading with Tibet. The whole Balephi Valley is magnificent and from here we drive further on a dirt road to Jalbire for about one hour upstream to our first night camp at Jalbire.
Day 03: Jalbire – Kartike Camp
After breakfast we start walking through a series of small trading towns and terraced hillsides. The trail passes through rice fields and forests, climbing above the valley to Kartike. All along the trail the views are superb.
Day 04: Kartike – Gomba Than Camp
The trail goes through forest climbing gradually enjoying the sneak views of the Himalayan peaks as you higher. This area is very untouched by the modern world and one of the few places in Nepal where you will see the nature at her heights.
Day 05: Gomba Than – Cholame Camp
The day follows the ridge then turns north towards and we climb of the forest in the high alpine and are often in the snowline in this area.
Day 06: Cholame – Chakkar Makkar Camp
Trek to today trail goes through forest camp (3400m) where we’ll spend the night
Day 07: Chakkar Makkar – Bhairav Kund Camp
Today we start much more early to trek to our highest point, will reach approx. 4200m. If the weather is good you will have fantastic mountain views. One real advantage of trekking up above Bhairav Kund  is that can chose how high they go. It is not a problem if anyone does not want to go higher, they can easily head back down whenever they are ready. The high point is normally snow covered, but the terrain is not difficult and no ice or snow equipment is needed.
Day 08: Bhairav Kund – Forest Camp
We retrace back through forest, back down to the forest camp.
Day 09: Forest Camp – Bagam Camp
After an early breakfast, the staff breaks down the campsite and the porters' load the gear and the packs.  You fallow the trail down for approximately 30 minutes to the Hindi Khola (stream). As you descend towards the stream, keep your eyes open for "Om Mani Padme Hum", rock carvings. From the river you travel up to the village of Tasitham where  you will leave the main trail and climb up to the village of Bagam. In Bagam, you can visit the local Gomba – monastery. The trail leads you through dense, mixed forests to the village.
Day 10: Bagam - Duganagadi Fort Camp
This historical trail was once the trade route between Nepal and Tibet. As you approach the pass, you can catch a glimpse of an old fortress, Dunganagadi. This fort was built by the Royal Army of Nepal during the Nepal-Tibeto war. The fort perches on a high ridge with  commanding views into Tibet and the surrounding areas.  We will camp at the fort.
